Egyedül a kiszakadt asztalterítő rontott a tökéletességen.
The food was inedible muck

The food is good here, a bit pricy. However, food can be better with the hot pepper. The hot pepper really makes the food tastes a lot better. Ask for it.
Wonderful Hungarian

Very good fröccs and awesome dishes.

Place found a bit by chance, before going on a free walking tour. Good food, normal price and nice staff.

As one of a group of four, I'd asked if we could try local food from an established restaurant in the Old Town one evening and everyone agreed. After an amazing wander around this historic area we began to search for a proper Hungarian Restaurant and found this place hidden down one of the many small streets of Buda. The waiter begrudgingly explained that the daily specials had all finished but we were welcome to eat off the main menu, which is what we did (and told him to try and smile - which is what he did!). I enjoyed a great glass of Drecher dark beer whilst choosing of a typical Hungarian menu, eventually opting for the crispy goose leg with red cabbage, washed down with a fantastic bottle of Vologtas Kekfrankos red. Everyone agreed that this was amazing food, cooked and prepared well which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended.

I love this restaurant, and always visit for the food, music and helpful staff. This visit was no exception and my friend and I enjoyed our meals. Thank you to the gypsy band for playing Csádas Monti which I love.

After visiting the Hungarian National Gallery in Buda Castle we were walking round the Buda Castle area and chanced upon this Hungarian restaurant. It is the oldest restaurant in the Buda Castle area, but belies its age. There were a few tables available outside but as it was just starting to spit with rain we chose to eat indoors. The decor is simple but nicely presented. Our waiter was charming in advising us what was on offer. As it is the week of St. Martin's festival when the traditional food is goose liver and roast goose, which we chose. This was followed by homemade apple streudal, delicious. For drinks we had the house rose which was good and a dark Hungarian beer called Bak.
All in all a very enjoyable meal, and we stayed out of the rain.
I would thoroughly recommend this eatery to anyone visiting the Buda castle area. It is a bit away from the main tourist routes, but not too far from Fisherman's Bastion and St. Mathias' church.

We had a simple dinner in the shoulder season - we didn't need a Michelin rated restaurant, but wanted Hungarian food. Yes, there is a violin player. We found the host very attentive - the restaurant was well attended but not super-busy. We asked for recommendations, and those were satisfactory. Enjoyed my chicken paprikash starter and wild boar stew - very ample; my husband enjoyed the local pike-perch. His "French onion" soup was onion-y but definitely not French onion, and his salad was limp. On the whole, we'd still return ( and follow the advice more closely).

Stopped for lunch here after visiting Fisherman's Bastion. A bit fancy for what we were looking for but the service was great and food was good. Plenty of seating inside in multiple rooms.

This is an inexpensive, informal, country-inn-style restaurant about 2 blocks from the Hilton, just down the street from Alabardos, with red-checked tablecloths and friendly, helpful service. A country-style Hungarian string trio seems to play every night. The food is Hungarian home cooking, with a very wide variety of hearty meat and fish courses, e.g. tasty wild-boar-in-red-wine stew or brown trout perfectly fried >in the round. Good, inexpensive wine list. It was so good we went back a second time.

Went there on a Saturday afternoon, place not really in the central square, so prices should be medium. Wrong, prices are quite high, portions small and they took the order wrong and ended up with different mains and sides. Another thing to mention, all mains don’t include sides so if a main is an average of 3500, you would pay another 1000 for a side.

After walking around the area I finally decided on this restaurant as the menu seemed to reflect traditional Hungarian cuisine. The prices are reasonable which is surprising since it is located in the Castle district. The menu is extensive to the point that all members of your table can find something to satisfy their appetite.
We ordered one steak, medium rare with green peppercorn sauce, goulash soup and goose liver with cinnamon apples. The steak was tender and juicy. I had never eaten goulash before and it was delicious. I will have to find a recipe to make it at home. The mix of goose liver and cinnamon apples was surprising and also delicious.
This is a beautiful restaurant with simple local cuisine that dazzles through its humbleness. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

For those on the nostalgia trail you will find plenty here. Patrick Leigh Fermor last dined here on his last visit to Budapest in 2001. Very traditional Hungarian fare - and nothing wrong with that!

Hi Everyone
If you are ever in Budapest, please visit this little gem of a restaurant.
Fantastic food, drinks and ask for the lovely Naiomi

The outside terrace of the Fekete Holló is very attractive - nicer than the 1970s recreation inside. Located in a fine 1795 building, it claims to have been going since the 16th century and is said to have been the favourite Budapest restaurant of English adventurer and chronicler of the Hungarian nobility Patrick Leigh Fermor who visited the city on his epic walk from Holland to Constantinople in 1934.
I enjoyed my roast goose, tomato and onion salad and Hungarian Chardonnay.
The one sour note was the extreme pressure to leave once staff decided to close. They turned the lights off while I was still at my table! This takes my rating down from from what would have been a 4 to a 3.

My son and I found this restaurant by accident, and were interested in it when we saw the menu. The waiter had a sense of humour, and the service was great. The portions were huge! There were a couple of musicians who played the violin and guitar (if you show interest they will expect you to tip), but I quite enjoyed listening to it while we ate.
It might seem a little pricey (other reviews have commented on this), but it is the same sort of price as other restaurants in the area, and you did not leave still feeling hungry!

We have made a reservation for a dinner. The menu was very good, the service very polite, the atmosphere was friendly. My guests were enchanted. Back again!

We arrived into Budapest on 21st March and after checking into the hotel, I explored the vicinity (Fisherman's Bastion) for a restautant for dinner.
Although it was still early, perhaps due to the location or season, most places were shut.
I chanced upon a small establishment - Fekete Hallo.
I was standing outside checking the menu and the lady-owner came out to invite me in.
I was pleasantly surprised by the cosy atmosphere and friendliness of the owner, and decided there and then that that was the correct place for our meal.
We were not dissapointed . . . The food was good, decently priced, and the bonus was a musical entertainment by two gentlemen on string instruments.
Fekete Hollo is definetely a restaurant I will return to, and highly recommend to anyone who wants a good meal at the Fisherman's Bastion vicinity in the Buda side of Budapest!

It was clear that the staff were a bit over stretched when we arrived for a bite to eat at lunch time. We waited about 10mins for a menu. I chose the chicken grilled with salad and my partner had the wild boar stew. Both were good. The house red wine was a tad acidic whereas the bottle of local beer Bek was as good as ever. The pancake was nice for dessert but the Irish Coffee with squirty cream didn’t cut muster with me but the coffee beans sprinkled on the top were a nice touch. The bill for the two of us came to about 46£. The facilities needed attention and I was forced to use my own tissues as the ladies lacked toilet paper. The building and restaurant were full of promise but in my view didn’t fully deliver.
