Be sure to visit with a big appetite : portions are huge! :-) I found the food very tasty (fish soup, veal stew), beware it's hot (as in, not cold)!

John Bull was the best option for food in downtown Nyireghaza. Fresh food, very tasty dishes and good beer. It;s conveniently located downstairs form the Hotel Korona. super friendly staff.

WE were looking for a place in downtown Nyíregyháza on a warm October day, where you can sit outside on a terrace, and eat veg food other than breaded fried cheese. We had very positive experience with the service, the quality and quantity of food, and price were not considerably higher than in the self service restaurant inside the zoo for much less food.

Had drinks here with friends. Sat at the terrace, nice for people watching.
Friendly staff, nice cool music.

Beer was good. The Czech "house" beer is better than the usual Hungarian fare.
Food was good.
Service was pretty good too.

Rested with his wife in Nyiregyhaza. 02.06 decided to celebrate a birthday. We chose a good, as it seemed to us, place in the center of JOHN BULL PUB, which belongs to the hotel "Korona". We sat on the terrace. The waiter brought the menu in Hungarian and in English. I thought, if there is a menu in English, then someone must understand from the staff. But I was wrong. Together we made an order. The first negative moment occurred when I tried to call the waiter to give us spices, but he just passed by. Since he took the order from another table from the Hungarians. During the entire time that we rested from 19.00 to 22.00, we have never changed the ashtray. And in order to remove the dirty dishes from the table, I had to ask the bartender, because the waiter who served us simply did not fit. The most unpleasant moment was that my phrase to the waiter "Speak English", he replied, "You speak Hungarian." And this despite the fact that I brought money to his institution. The evening was a bit spoiled. But in spite of the rudeness of the waiter, the dishes were tasty and the portions were large. But I will not rest there. Fundamentally.

Nice, tasty food for reasonable price. Fantastic salads and desserts. They also offer lunch menu, diet lemonade on hot summer days. John Bull Pub has a lovely terrace in the heart of the city. It definitely worths a visit!

Caesar salad is a little bit of Hungarian style ;-) but still we loved it. Duck was good.
Try Harslevelu wine! The best. I'd say it's expensive, Budapesti prices.

We were staying at the Korona Hotel and the John Bull Pub is downstairs. We were there early by dinner standards and the place was quite quiet. Young staff with some English, who were friendly and attentive-menu was in Hungarian and English. We both had duck which was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. Later in our trip we had similar meals in a very expensive big city restaurant-and they did not hold a candle to what we were served at the John Bull Pub. We had a great meal which surprised us-we hadn't expected this in an "English" pub in a small Hungarian city.

I've eaten here several times in the past, but most recently while out to lunch with a friend, I found it to be the best experience thus far. Having said this, the one thing that could have been better would have been the speed of service. We were one of only two occupied tables at the restaurant and it was the slowest part of their business day. There was absolutely no excuse for the food to have taken as long as it did. However the food was absolutely delicious. If you're looking for something cheap in Nyiregyhaza, then this is not the place to go - but if $11 for a plate of out of this world borjupaprikas and galuska is a good deal for you, then it is in fact worth the price. While the staff wasn't over the moon friendly, they were very polite, and we were impressed all the way around. The location is ideal, as it's in the center of the city and the atmosphere inside and out are very chic. Highly recommended to tourists who aren't on a tight budget, or for people who are local to the town, who would like a nice afternoon or evening out with good dining!
