hibátlan hely.
The place is amazing! Craft beer, vegan food and friendly staff. Highly recommended!
Wholeheartedly agree with the other recommendations. Cozy & funky. Most excellent vegetarian & vegan food. Good selection of local wines, craft beers, liquors.

Craft beers, vegetarian kitchen, funky design and the famous, uncomparable real hungarian hospitality. If I would need to recommend a bar for a turist now, then it would be the Macska! Thumbs up!

Friendly staff, tasty vegetarian food, wide range of beers and wine. Love it!

Petfect place not only for vegans and vegetarians. Good red beer and house white vine.
Radek Wrana
Good selection of handcraft beer, super service, vegan food. Cosy like Mojo Szeged back in the days.

A palackos sörválaszték is remek, tartják például a Gólem serfőzde három sörét (Sötét Bunkó, Repeta, Enigma) baráti áron, 750 forintért.

Budapest has plenty of bars to be raucous in and this place benefits from being the opposite.
There's a great selection of beers in a warm and cosy atmosphere. There is is plenty to look at and enjoy on the walls as well as being somewhere you can relax and enjoy food and company.
Upstairs is more laid back. You can lounge on cushions and spread out much more than downstairs. You can easily make yourself comfortably and spend a long time here.
The perfect place to unwind.

This is my first review and I’ve signed up specifically to write it as this place deserves recognition.
The venue is an amazing space with a great ambience. The food is great and they also have fantastic beer selection. The staff are also lovely which also helps.
The prices are the best we’ve found in Budapest so far as well.

On a 4 day trip to Budapest the Macska was on my list of must visit bars! And being only a short walk from our hotel it became a regular stopping off place on our way back to our room.
Great selection of beers on tap and a reasonable vegetarian food menu, the Macska was a popular spot with locals. Friendly service and a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, this little pub is worth a visit. If you feel adventurous in addition to the ground floor bar area, there is a mezzanine level where you can chill out on cushions after you successfully negotiate the tight staircase.
Definitely worth a visit.

This place is perfect to have an athmospheric date. Its gallery is stuffed with pillows and beanbags to sit, the lights are comfortably dim, the music perfectly blends in (that's something that not every place can achieve, unfortunately), and the guy behind the counter is a mage, or at least knows their drinks pretty well. Even if you walk at him, asking for "something.... errmm.... not so bitter, like you know... that has that kind of light taste..." he will know what's perfect for you.

To say this is a unique place is an understatement. It has a good selection of good beer (so husband was happy) and serves a limited simple but fine vegetarian meals (so I was happy). The interior is quirky to say the least (interesting paintings eg. Monnighan and her crows and numerous carved wooden cats - hence the name of the pub) and the atmosphere is relaxed, one might even say, laid back. The staff were quietly knowledgeable and friendly and the service was good. So good in fact that we returned for a 2nd visit. Just wish it was our local.

We came here initially for the food having checked out vegetarian and vegan options in the city and while we both enjoyed a cheap, tasty bean soup with lovely bread from the small menu I'd say that the real beauty of the Macska is in its pub/bar atmosphere rather than as an eatery. Obviously run with real love and knowledge of good drinks and decor, the lady who I guess is the owner was really helpful and nice both times we visited. This is an excellent place to come for a nice drink in a proper hidden gem of a local spot, especially recommended if you want to enjoy something away from all the tourist traps on the main streets. Thank you Macska, we will come again next time!

Really great place to go for a drink or wholesome veggie food. Good variety of drinks. Staff were really polite, and a great atmosphere for a quiet evening. Highly recommend.

Very nice place near Rakoczi Ter metro station. Variety of beers, snacks to eat (hummus, pitaplatter, ratatouille etc.) and very interesting atmosphere with nice english service. Nice place to visit!

A new favourite for me. This is a spacious bar with an upstairs and really discreet staff. We received the wi-fi code without asking. Great beers and a very knowledgeable barman who could not have been more helpful.
There are interesting and political cartoons on the wall.
Not at all a rowdy, raucous place, I wish I had a local like this which was understated and cool.
I can't speak highly enough of this place.

I really want to give this place an all-round positive review, as pubs serving exclusively veggie food are few and far between, but I have to say that we found the food pretty average - perhaps more for people who have had a couple of drinks and realise they should also have some food, rather than people like us who went there more for the food than the drinks and ambience. It is a really nice friendly place, with helpful kind bar staff (and a nice dog!). The drinks are reasonably priced and the customers quite young and bohemian types, although are older and relatively conventionally dressed and were made to feel very welcome.

We only dropped in for a drink. Nice selection of drinks on offer and the upstairs area was really cozy. We had a good time, the hosts were friendly and the atmosphere nice. If you’re in the area and fancy a drink I’d say give it a go.

This is a place that we felt at home in, the staff were just so good and friendly. They got us seats, it was very busy and got us drinks. It was just so cheap. The place itself is and interesting hotch potch of all sorts of cat painting, oddness and just a bit crazy.
Loved it, wish we had found this earlier whilst in Budapest, next time.

Nice alternative Bar, with very nice people, who like to get in touch. They serve a beer from a small bruery in Budapest and a lot of other good drinks. We did'nt tried the food, 'cause we came very late, but I'm sure the very few offers are made with love and taste.

Being a vegetarian, I wanted to check out a veggie restaurant in Budapest - in this city most meals in restaurants contain meat though since my previous visit 10 years ago the situation has improved a lot. I chose Macska because of the good reviews.
To find the place you need a map because it's located a bit far from the main tourist attractions. After finding it I was happy because the place looked lovely and cosy and I was welcomed warmly by the friendly staff. Most people (quite young) seemed to be in for the drinks, but I was hungry. The menu was quite short and simple, and I opted for a cheese quesadilla. It took quite a long time (40 mins) before the plate was brought to
me and I wondered why: preparing a simple tortilla with vegetables inside and cheese on top shouldn't last that long. I was quite disappointed having to find out after the long wait that the food was quite tasteless. I would have expected a bit more because veggie food can have strong flavours, too.
Anyway, the atmosphere was great and the house wine cheap and tasty, so I would return there to have a drink but perhaps not to dine.

Had a nice beer with my wife in the cat-themed restaurant, together with the humous platter to snack on some carrots and humous. It was not too busy.

Went here for a few drinks before bed and loved it: inevitably cool decor, warmth, friendly service and a mezzanine where you can crash out on cushions and just chill. Would definitely come again!
