I had some lunch here. It felt like visiting my grandma from Budapest (which I don't have). The staff hardly spoke any English so I ended up ordering a random menu and it was delicious.

Házias izek,bő választék,cuki (nagymamás kedvességű)személyzet, varázslatos,békebeli időket igéző környezet...valami azért mégis más,a nagyinal sosem kellett az ebédért fizetnem!😁megnyugtatok mindenkit,azért itt sem kértek sokat!👍

Nagyon kellemes hely, elegendő választék. Kedves múltidéző berendezés. Otthoni ízek. Kicsit furcsáltam, hogy nem lehet azonnal fizetni az ablaknál. Jövök máskor is.

What a precious hidden gem!
If my friend hadn't find it on tripadvisor, we would have never guessed that this was first a restaurant and so good!
Its has a very cozy atmosphere, feels like a typical home and the hostesses are super nice, even if they speak very little english (but this ia how you know its a typical restaurant I suppose).
I went with 5 friends, and two of ordered the beef goulash, the other two chicken paprika and the 5th ordered 'stuffed' cabbage - all the dishes were delicious ans the desert was equally good!
I super recommend it!

Our family went here after visiting the Lukacs thermal baths for a late lunch. It's hours of opening were limited but we were very lucky to be accommodated.
Without knowledge of Hungarian it may be a bit challenging to communicate, but the staff are very friendly and sweet. The restaurant is tight and involves a certain level of self-service as typical with this sort of Hungarian restaurant. Locals do eat here and with good reason: The quality and taste is excellent for traditional Hungarian dishes. Our three teenage sons were also very satisfied with the quantity.
I highly recommend this place - its wonderful.

The food is very good, the portions are big and the prices are low.
It's a very small, but cosy restaurant. Just what you need if you want to eat som traditional dish in an traditional atmosphere.
They don't accept card payments so you need to have cash on you. The menu is in hungarian, but the staff is very friendly and helpful and the language of the menu will not be an impediment. :)

You know the food will be good when everyone dining in the restaurant is speaking the local language. This is where Hungarians go when they want homemade Hungarian food.
This really is grandma's house, and her kitchen. You'll feel like home because it looks like home.
The menu, written in Hungarian, is everything you'd hope for. Order at the counter and receive your order on a piece of paper. Find a seat and they will bring your food to you. You can order something to drink once you've found a seat.
Portions are quite big and everything is delicious. You'll pay once your meal is over and you're welcome to sit and enjoy at your own pace.

Good food and service by this place. All dishes are freshly made and big portions. Highly recommended.

We stopped in here after a long walk through Margaret Island. Amazing spot and strongly recommended. No thrills, but seriously good food for a little cost. All freshly produced day-to-day, full of locals. We had two meat soups, one chicken paprikash and a turkey dish served with potatoes, pasta and rice. Fantastic feed and all for 4.600 HUF including drinks!!

A friend took me to this gem of a restaurant! It is small, it has no waitresses and you pretty much serve yourself. But it has an extensive menu, superb "homemade" foods and friendly atmosphere!

We had goulash soup with bread. The price was 750 forint per portion. Food was great, portions were big. And it was really tasty!
The menu is written in Hungarian only, but they speak English, so we didn't have any problem with communication.
Credit cards are not accepted.

The name says it all: Nagyi kifozdeje = Grandma's Eatery. This place is especially good after a good swim and soaking at the Szent Lukacs Baths across the street. Each menu item comes with a soup. This last visit I had the vegetable soup and stuffed white Hungarian peppers in tomato sauce which was very tasty and satisfying. Often times tourists ask me where they can find real Hungarian food. Well, this is the place. Run by a bunch of ladies who prepare all the food fresh for lunch every single day. Dishes like chicken paprikash, stuffed cabbages, goulashes etc. They are not open for dinner. Price/value ratio is excellent.

The place we found on Google. It was a good choice. Excellent dishes with exceptionally good and warm hospitality.

We saw this "restaurant" coming out from St. Lucasz Thermal Bath, and it was pretty full, but accompanied a table, occupied by a lady, who told us how to choose from the extensive menu in Hungarian handwriting. It was quickly served, the soups very tasty, and dishes it take several hours to cook, and much experience to give this taste. The service is nice semi-self-service. Lots of choice, and in fact we came here 3 times during our stay in Budapest, because it was good, tasty, rather cheap, and quick service.

The food here is excellent home made quality, just like your grandma 👵 used to cook !! The prices are amazingly low , there are very few tourist that visit so be prepared to be stared at by the locals , only one staff member speaks English but they are all pleasant. Menues only in Hungarian. It can get very very busy in there and hot.

The previous comments say it all; a hidden gem with excellent home cooked meals at a very decent price.
The staff do not speak English but that did not matter as they showed us what was on offer. Unfortunately we turned up circa 3pm and many dishes had sold out.
What we had we really enjoyed and we would certainly recommend this restaurant.
The little cake shop next door serves quality coffee and cakes at give away prices. Standing room only and some boards for the coffee to rest on; quirky.

Our family of five stumbled into this local restaurant after our time at Lukas bath.
Only one person spoke English so communicating was a little hard but the food was amazing. Great soups, homemade style main courses - paprika beef was wow and the roasted duck slid off the bone.
Price was good
