this place used to be so good, but the quality keeps going down, choice is less and less and today I was given cold rice as a side dish.

Typical Hungarian "kifözde" with a Portuguese twist. Food is not too oily and is healthier than is similar places. Service is extremely nice. Come before noon if you can.

Gombapaprikás forever!!!!! Isteni!
This tiny establishment offered delicious food each time I had lunch there. Places to sit are few but there's almost always a spot to find and enjoy your amazing meal. The cook is Portuguese who aims for maximum customer satisfaction. Prices are more than ideal for the size of the platters. Note that this not a restaurant but a small eatery.
I absolutely love this place and highly recommend it for lunch.

Coming to this splendid place once a week at least. Generaly portugese dishes like franzinga and bitoque, friday is always fishday with a fantastic fishsoup. Try the chocolate cake, it is marvellous.

I eat in this place almost every day as I work nearby. The quality is constant, and they speak english, portugal, german well. Few place to sit, only bar chairs available.

A nice fast food joint with good food with ingredients straight from a nearby farmer's market, and very affordable prices. Always a good solution if you run out of time/ideas for cooking and want a quick meal. They usually run out of food after 2 PM, so it's best to go there around 1 PM.

First of all, this is not a restaurant but a luncheonette - in fact most people buy their lunches to take away. With this put forward, there is nothing wrong with the seemingly spartan place, the plastic forks and plates and the bistro style small tables and counters.
The daily selection is usually 1-2 soups and 6-7 main courses of Hungarian and Portuguese cuisine - the cook is Portuguese (does not even speak Hungarian). The owner is a young enthusiastic guy greeting all customers shouting across the place and a small chat about football adds a very casual atmosphere.
The food is absolutely the best in its category. Portuguese dishes are largely unfamiliar in Budapest hence, they add a sort of 'never tasted before' feeling whereas Hungarian choices resemble the best traditions of home-style cooking.
Going there quite regularly, I have never been disappointed. They simply cannot cook anything less than perfect.

Found this little place by chance. Open 11-4pm weekdays, Picante offers a reasonable selection of local and Portuguese dishes - no a la carte, the dishes of the day are on display. There are 3 or 4 selections, with some dishes changed each day.
On my first visit - a selection of pörkölt stew, portuguese chicken stew, chicken with pineapple, and stuffed zucchini, along with a selection of accompaniments. Soft drinks are poured from the 2L bottles and there was a very good chocolate tart for dessert.
You make your choice, pay your money, around Ft 1000-1200 (2009) for a main meal, drink and dessert, and take your tray to a small area where you eat. There is nothing fancy (plastic cutlery, plates, cups etc) but the food is tasty and cheap.
All in all, a good find for the lunch trade in the culinary-deprived 13th district, near Lehel Ter metro, on Victor Hugo, between Vaci Ut and Visegradi.
