The Hungarian food was really good, very nice service and good location.
We end up the free tour and the tour guide recommended us to have lunch here.
Very good choice.

The food is very traditional Hungarian. There is a band playing Hungarian music while you dine. I love this restaurant! The food is great, the service is supurb, and the music is very moving!

We had the goulash soup, and the fish soup, and they were both very good.
Prices on the high side, but that's typical of food on the Buda side, as compared to Pest side. So overall, it is considered good value.
I read some comments about the waiters possibly being racist because they offered chilly as a sauce, but I think that must have been a misunderstanding. I notice that in Hungarian restaurants, they often provide paprika sauce for most of their dishes; so based on that, I don't think they were trying to be racist.
So, if you happen to be in the area and would like to eat Hungarian food, I would recommend this restaurant.

were there with a few friends, its a nice atmosphere, we had a small separate place, but were able to see the nice show with traditional dancing and violine music.

This restaurant features traditional Hungarian and Continental cuisine in a picturesque cellar restaurant with historically interesting wall paintings. The food was mostly very good, the price-value relation pretty good (dinner for four with wine and mineral water about 180 Euros); tables are available both with and without ethnic music and folk dancing.

We were a group of eight and staying at the Hilton Hotel across the street. We liked the look of the restaurant so we ask for reservations at 7pm on a Tuesday night. We were told we didn't need reservations, so we showed up a 7. We were the only diners in the restaurant, which made us suspicious. But we were pleasantly surprised - the service and food were excellent - best apple strudel. It was really nice having the place to ourselves. Only negative is they do not take credit cards. Would highly recommend.

Called in here for lunch yesterday. We only had main course; I had chicken paprika with dumplings and my husband had beef goulash. My chicken was very tasty but the dumplings weren't what I expected, but this is obviously how they are in Hungary. My husband enjoyed his goulash and said the meat we very tender. Service was good too. Seemed like a decent restaurant if you want to try Hungarian food.

The food and the atmosphere is unique. You can enjoy listening a group of musicians while enjoying traditional Hungarian food.
We went there for dinner and had an amazing time. Excellent service!

There is a traditional show whit 2 dancers and musicians which is fine. The food is perfect. But the price is high and they include 13% for tips directly in the bill!

The strangest thing...we stayed across the street at the Hilton, and tries this restaurant on our second night. We enjoyed the food very much! We were the only patrons and they were closing as we left...around 8:00pm. Every night there is no one there! But the food was good so I don't know if we missed something, but I can't give them a bad review!

We were staying at the Hilton by the Castle. And couldn't help but feel jealous when we saw many diners enjoying an outdoor meal at Matyas Restaurant across the street.
We were able to make a reservation for a few days later and had a delightful dinner with four friends. I won't try to describe what we had but suffice it to say that we all had a blast!

The restaurant is right next door to the apartment I was staying and since I was very tired after a day of sightseeing I decided to go there. I was not expecting much - the décor was very old and the restaurant appeared very touristy. I ordered the Grilled Smoked Gomolya Cheese with Matchstick Vegetables to start and the Skewer of Grilled Vegetables with Wild Mushroom and Smoked Cheese Risotto as my main. The Smoked Gomolya was out of this world!! Lots of flavour in both the cheese and the vegetables. The Risotto was a bit salty due to the amount of cheese that was in it but again very flavorful. I had a couple glasses of local wine – Amazing!! The portions were so huge that I could not eat desert. There was singing and dancing in the next room that complemented the dinner. A great way to end the day!
Overall experience was FANTASTIC!!! The service, the music, the atmosphere and the food were all perfect. Definitely a place worth revisiting!!!

We visited as a group of 5 on a rainy Sunday lunchtime which might explain how quiet it was - we were the only people there when we arrived but a few more groups arrived as we were eating. We picked it purely because it was a lot cheaper than another similar restaurant over the road and it had more veggie options than the other menus we'd looked at (3 in total and several more pescatarian ones).
It turned out to be a good choice and wasn't too expensive by Castle District standards - my halászlé was 1900 ft (about £5), the veggie options were about 2200 ft (~£6) and there was a larger variation (and some more expensive dishes) in the main section of the menu. The service was good, although the waiters did disappear for about 5 minutes right when we were trying to get the bill. My halászlé was a very generous portion and nice and thick with plenty of chunks of catfish.
All in all, I would recommend this restaurant if you're looking for somewhere in the Castle District with hearty Hungarian food.

My husband and I were so pleased to have happened upon this lovely gem of a restaurant. The food and service was superb and we were surprised by the great entertainment - the talented violinist, Lakatos Vilmos and his band playing classics and contemporary music accompanied by Hungarian dancers! A very romantic evening.
