When I saw the reviews I thought it would be fabricated but have decided to give it a go. Omg such a 💎. Looks like home food. Price it is so but so affordable.
Food is great . Hidden gem for sure. Please include this little restaurant as a must do.
Nb : if you are looking for something really fancy you do not gonna find it. It is great food , quiet, friendly owner and looks like homemade food with amazing quality.

Kivansag Etkezde is a small restaurant about 900m west of Keleti rail station. The owner takes great pride in offering basic home-cooked Hungarian food. I was attracted by the simple decor, cheery checked table cloths, and many locals eating there. The menu was Hungarian with some English and pictures, and my server spoke some English. I had fried chicken cutlets (hot, not greasy) on rice with a small salad (lettuce and tomatoes). Everything was delicious, portions were generous, prices very reasonable and the dining area was tidy.

We liked it so much that we went back the next night. The food was very good. We had the goulash and paprika chicken. Both excellent choices

Authentic. Small and cosy. Staff super friendly. Food all homemade and super tasty. A must do if you want to eat a good Hungarian meal.

Really off the beaten path. Wasn’t difficult to find but there also isn’t really a sign. I’ll post a photo of the outside. I had the bean and pork soup and a cucumber with sour cream salad. Only locals there, I was the only tourist. The other items looked and smelled amazing. Mostly fried food, which I don’t eat but everyone around me seemed to enjoy. Super inexpensive as well. Bread, soup and salad for under $3 USD. Highly recommend

I was in a bar in Budapest, not far from the Oktogon Metro. My last night was coming up in Budapest, and so far, I was getting disappointed in not experiencing real Hungarian cuisine/home cooking. Also, from what I ate, I firmly believed that I was paying tourist prices. I managed to engage with locals in a bar, who recommended this establishment. They said I would not be disappointed if I was seeking traditional, Hungarian home cooked fayre. And they were thoroughly correct in their proposal. And so, as a result, I shall forever remain grateful towards these strangers in a bar.
The place is hidden, just off an unassuming backstreet. It does not accept cards, not does it have a 'flashy'interior. The walls are adorned with some sporting memorabilia. Yet the place allows it's food to do all the talking. I came in at lunch time with my partner. Big burly builder and plasterer types were seated, as was a business suited lady and elderly patrons. All walks of Hungarian life seem to come here. I felt for once I was dining with locals, in a truly authentic way. My smoked meat and bean soup was simply heavenly. Not short on beans or meats. Filled to the brim with home cooked loveliness and flavour. The big dollop of sour cream set it off against the piquant paprika. At less than 2 pounds with bread , this is exceptional. My main was cooked with love too. Breaded chicken with onion, served on a bed of home cooked fries, with sour cream on the side too. The main may have been slightly over 4 pounds! I do not recall the wine or beer list, but all I can say, I was so engrossed with the food, I did not give a jot.....What a great and fitting moment in Budapest this establishment created; an epiphany that you can seek what you are truly after. I really should be keeping this place quiet, though.... BTW, the menu is changed around I believe every 2 days.
