We were recommended this restaurant by the hotel and were told that while it was a bit tired and traditional, the food was excellent. They weren't wrong. The food was absolutely superb and really showed off just how good Hungarian food could be. Decent pianist plonking away in the corner kept a slightly oldy world theme going. We enjoyed the night and would go back.

....An absolute enjoyable experience with real Hungarian cuisine in this old run down restaurant that needs some renovations! But that didn't bother us as we enjoyed the traditional "Red" Hungarian Curry/ stew not sure its red but not hot like a Indian cuisine! Love-lii experience!.....

This restaurant offers beautiful, grand rooms in the old style of Budapest, and traditional dishes to match. Dishes very good and the overall experience is excellent. Did not feel touristy; mostly locals. Good wine list for Hungarian wines.

This is a lovely, old- fashioned coffehouse (but we also had lunch, which was good but not great) and mulled wine. But we really came for the cakes, and were not disappointed. They are beautifully displayed and delicious!

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel and it was a nice visit (I did not request a seating away from the piano (the player was excellent although the piano was off-key) so that bothered me but that was my own doing). The menu was not to extensive and the choices were divers. The service was cool en efficient, the prices were a little bit higher but you can dine in a remarkable interior.

If you want to have a delicious lunch off the tourist areas, Művész Kávéház és Étterem is a very good choice. You may also consider a visit if you want to have some nice drink or quality coffee ... or even if you look for a ideal place to spend a first class dinner for a reasonable price.

Very professional waiting staff. Grand piano being played. Delicious food and wines, beautifully presented. A very good experience for our last night dining in Budapest.

The friendly staff made our visit an ok experience, but the quality and variety of food was not great

Don't hesitate. This is a place for good food, served by waiters of the old school in locals that ooze of history.

We had fish, chicken, schnitzel, grilled vegetable and it was all tasty.
The green tee had a lively taste as if it was brought from the forest few minutes ago.
The server was very nice.
The restaurant is well located and the atmosphere and background music is so relaxing.
We waited ~20 min for the food, and it was well worth it.

the place looks amazing, you have to visit when you are in the neighborhood. We used to come here to get lunch, they used to have daily menu's, not sure if they still do it or not however the food was always great. recommended

What a lovely authentic coffee shop. Always bustling with a nice atmosphere. The decor is classical which matches the patisserie.
A great place to warm up and re energise. Staff were excellent.

I usually skip the expensive breakfasts in my hotel and go here for a good breakfast platter at just HUF 1500. Cappucino is excellent, too, italian style foam. The cakes on display are as good as they look. Young, engaged waiters take care of you in this place which I rate higher than the Gerbeaud, the other well-known coffeehouse in this city.

Good food but even better service. Waiter knowing their business, advising good wines but not too pushy. Really nice place.

The Goulash soup is tasty and hearty - give it a go! Great restaurant to have a meal in and the service staff were attentive and pleasant.

This restaurant, behind the "Vígszínház", serves excellent food. It's a real gem just off the main street. From Jászai Mari tér walk towards Nyugati Station (ie. don't cross the brige) until you see "Vígszínház", go around it and you'll find the place.
It's hard to choose from the variety of plates they offer, ranging from the famous "Gulyásleves in small cauldron" to less-known, but just as tasty Hungarian specialties.
The waiters were very polite and friendly, the service fast and the atmosphere nice.
The menu is in three languages: Hungarian, English and the third was Russian, I believe.
I recommend this place to anyone who wants authentic food that is excellent value for money.
